Developing an Application

Through my everlasting need to have as many incomes as possible I have known for a while that applications are where it’s at. An app can take you a long way in the world of the Internet. You can take an idea as simple and pedestrian as Yo (wherein you can send a message that says “Yo” to your friends, and only that) and make millions of dollars with it. When you have an app people love, you are more likely to have a committed following of people that will purchase your next application.

Here are a few steps you can take to create your first ever application and selling it on the app store through Apple®!

  1. Create an application. It doesn’t have to be complicated, (see Yo, above) but it does have to be addictive. It can be a game, a form of social media, or anything else you can think up. As long as there is a market for it, people will download it. I have found that it is the easiest to come up with ideas for a game because there are a million different ways to play a single game ( as an example, Candy Crush and Bejeweled).
  2. Option A: If you know coding (and whatever else you need to know to develop your own app) and have the ability to actually create your own application, good for you! I on the other hand do not have this ability. So if you are like me, go to option B.

Option B: Hire someone to develop your app for you. If you know a web developer, reach to them, as they will either be able to develop it for you or refer you to someone. There are tons of different websites you can use to do this. Some of the more well known are Elance or Toptal. You can use these sites to post a notice and the developers will contact you directly. You can look this up online and see if it is for you (there are some people who prefer not to send their ideas off to a stranger).

Option C: There’s an app for that! That’s right, you can download an app to make your own application! Seems crazy, but if you can figure out how to use one of the free services to make your own application, it may be worth it.

  1. Test it out! You want to make sure that your application is flawless before you take the time to have it put onto the app store! So send it to your friends, family, or anyone else that is willing and able to give you feedback (beta test) on your application. You will thank yourself later when the 5 star ratings come in.
  2. Finally, once you have thoroughly tested your application and made the necessary changes to it, you can start the grueling process of submitting your application to the app store. This seems like it would be a simple thing to do, but it is probably the most complex part of the process. You have to submit your application, and I have heard of it taking up to four months for Apple® to respond. There are other mediums of course (Android, Windows, etc.) that take less time, and are probably worth exploring as well.

So there you have it! What it takes to create an app. When dreaming up ideas for your possible application remember that it is easier on you if there is already an existing market for your app, and make sure you test it out. Keep your hopes up high when submitting your application to stores! As long as it is clever and appropriate there is no reason that they would not accept it!
